4.

My dear love,

Recently the message at church was about Jesus feeding the multitude of 5000 people with 5 loaves of bread and two small fishes. We are reminded of Jesus’ love and compassion for his people, but how the people were only interested in following him so they could have more of the physical benefits, and how disinterested they were when he attempted to escalate the conversation into the spiritual realm. They were focused on what they wanted to do, not on what God wanted to do with them and the message Jesus was trying to teach them.

This made me think, how we as a couple should focus absorbing the message of Jesus and what he is trying to teach us, while storing up for ourselves treasures in heaven, doing his will on this earth, and not in gaining things of this world. As Matthew 6:19-20 (ESV) says “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.”

The rest of the message was about how the multitude failed to take up the spiritual benefit and pass it along to others. The spiritual bread not only sustains life, it gives life!

This brings me to my next thought, about me being a “breadwinner” and provider.. That is I guess, unless you go out to work too. I would never MAKE you go out to work, but if you WANTED to I would have no objections to you doing so. In fact it would be great if you wanted to, because in this day and age it seems near impossible to buy a house & keep above board unless the income earner is on a high paying wage. But then, like I was just saying about not storing up treasures on earth, maybe buying a house isn’t really a top priority like everyone makes it out to be? Maybe we just need to focus on starting well, doing his work, raising up Godly children and finishing well. One thing’s for sure though, this current economic climate is going to be a test for us, and make us more reliant on God for provision and sustenance than we might be otherwise.

Wow, there’s so much to think on and discuss with you someday!

with Christ’s love,

your future husband
